10-year-old Patience Albert was walking to school with her brother on the morning of Tuesday, February 25, 2020 when tragedy struck. As she stepped into the crosswalk at the intersection of Crescent Street and Wortman Avenue in the East New York area of Brooklyn, she was hit by a school bus making a right turn.
David Johnson Killed in Queens Demolition Accident, Another Worker Injured
On Thursday, Feb. 20, 2020, a partial building collapse occurred at a Queens demolition site, tragically killing David Johnson and severely injuring another worker. Johnson, 50, was declared dead at the scene of the accident. The other injured worker was taken to Jamaica Hospital in serious condition. New York's Department of Buildings (DOB) is investigating this incident.
School Bus Accident Occurs on Belt Parkway in Queens
On Wednesday, February 12, 2020, police and firefighters responded to a school bus accident on the eastbound side of the Belt Parkway in Queens. The accident occurred at around 7:30 a.m. The bus was occupied at the time of the accident but, thankfully, there are no reported injuries.
Alejandro Pellisa Dies in New Rochelle Electrocution Accident
Another tragic death due to a construction accident occurred in New Rochelle, New York on the afternoon of Wednesday, February 12, 2020. 26-year-old Alejandro Manuel Caisaguano Pellisa was performing a job on the outside of a building on Union Avenue. In order to do the job, he had to be lifted in a cherry picker. Sadly, the cherry picker accidentally struck some high voltage wires, and he was electrocuted.
NJ Transit Raritan Valley Line Train Collides with Truck
On Tuesday, February 11, 2020, the NJ Transit Raritan Valley line experienced delays going both ways due to a collision along the tracks. An NJ Transit train collided with the trailer of a truck that was stuck on the tracks at the Cedar Avenue crossing in Middlesex, NJ. Luckily, there are no reported injuries.
