For the seventh year in a row, personal injury law firm Block O’Toole & Murphy dominated in the New York Law Journal’s 2018 Top Settlements report.
Four of the Top 10 settlements were achieved by the firm, in addition to seven of the Top 15, eight of the Top 20, and 18 of the Top 50. Since 2012, every single year, Block O’Toole & Murphy has obtained more reported results exceeding $1,000,000 in verdicts and settlements than any other law firm in New York State.
Partner Daniel O’Toole is proud to be part of a firm that continues to provide necessary legal services to clients. “We understand how much an injury or accident can completely halt a person’s life, both personally and professionally,” he said. “It is our job to give our all for every client and make sure they get every last dollar that is owed to them.”
The rankings included cases regarding motor vehicle accidents, worker/workplace negligence, and premises liability.
In one premises liability case, the fourth highest settlement in New York State, a woman was preparing Easter dinner in the kitchen of her apartment when she was struck on her head, neck, and back by a large section of ceiling that collapsed due to water damage. The firm recovered $5,850,000 for the client.
In a case that obtained the fifth highest settlement in the state and the second highest settlement for a motor vehicle accident, a man was rear ended by a truck, which caused severe spinal injuries. The firm was able to recover $5,325,000 for the client.
“When such a catastrophic event occurs-especially when caused by another party’s negligence-it can be difficult for that person to see how they could ever come close to getting back to their normal life,” said Founding Partner Jeffrey Block. “This is why we work so hard to get our clients the maximum compensation; we want to make their recovery and subsequent adjustment as smooth as possible.”
The firm also excels in handling construction accidents. In a case ranked as the ninth highest settlement in the state, a man fell eight feet to the ground from an extension ladder, crushing his left leg and ankle. The firm recovered $4,000,000 for the client.
“While we can never truly right the wrongs that have been done to our clients, we want to help them recover a full and fair amount so they can move forward with their lives,” said Partner Stephen Murphy. “We develop personal relationships with many of our clients, so we see firsthand the damaging effect a catastrophic injury can have. Our team of attorneys and paralegals work tirelessly, and every hour put into a case is worth it.”
Overall, Block O’Toole & Murphy has attained well over $1 billion in verdicts and settlements for clients.
