Block O’Toole & Murphy is again proud to be ranked as one of America’s “Best Law Firms” in 2020, compiled collaboratively by the U.S. News & World Report and Best Lawyers®. The firm has been regionally recognized in New York City as a Tier 1 law firm in two practice areas: Personal Injury Litigation – Plaintiffs and Product Liability Litigation – Plaintiffs.
Rankings are organized in three tiers, in both national and regional categories. Tier 1 is the highest ranking. According to the 2020 “Best Law Firms” press release announcing the list’s publication, being awarded a tiered ranking shows “a unique combination of quality law practice and breadth of legal expertise.” In order to be eligible for any ranking, a firm must have at least one lawyer who has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America©, a publication that honors the top 5 percent of private practicing lawyers in the U.S. Partners Jeffrey Block, Daniel O’Toole, and Stephen Murphy have been recognized as Best Lawyers® in New York.

The rankings are decided each year through an extensive evaluation process, including client and lawyer evaluations, Best Lawyers® peer review from leading industry attorneys, and a review of further information given by law firms as part of the formal submission process. This year’s rankings are especially impressive, as they are a result of the highest-ever number of participating firms and client votes received.

According to the press release, almost 16,000 lawyers gave more than 1,229,000 law firm assessments, and more than 12,000 clients provided 107,000 evaluations. Considering that much of the evaluation process comes from peer review, to be ranked so highly signifies that Block O’Toole & Murphy is well-regarded in the New York legal community. As the press release stated, “Firms that received a tier designation reflect the highest level of respect a firm can earn among other leading lawyers and clients from the same communities and practice areas.”
The “Best Law Firms” list is well-respected, since it is put together by two publications that have historically succeeded in guiding people to make the best and most informed decisions at important moments in their lives. Best Lawyers® has been providing trusted rankings and information on lawyers of all practice areas around the world to the public for almost 40 years, and the U.S. News & World Report has been providing necessary guidance to the American public since 1933.
