The New York construction accident attorneys at Block O’Toole & Murphy are following a developing story that occurred this morning in the Bronx near the Throgs Neck Bridge.
A construction worker was fatally crushed by a crate on the Throgs Neck Expressway Road earlier this morning while the worker was unloading a truck. The worker was reportedly a private contractor who was working at a Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority facility. The crate came down violently, crushing the unsuspecting victim.
Our sympathies are with the family members and friends of this fallen worker.
Authorities are already investigating how this accident occurred. While information is still trickling out, it appears that the crate was being hoisted as part of an ongoing construction project. The crate was likely not properly secured while it was being hoisted and that was the reason it crashed down on this helpless worker. The way this work was done may constitute a violation of New York’s Labor Law. A violation of the Labor Law is one of the issues investigators will explore by examining the scene, speaking with witnesses and assessing all available forensic evidence. This fatal accident also provides additional proof that construction work continues to be a dangerous occupation despite safety advancements. Workers are vulnerable every day they go to work and never know when something tragic could occur.
We will continue to update you on this construction accident as additional information is revealed.
Legally, there will come a time for the loved ones of this worker to contemplate whether action is appropriate. For now, we hope they can find some comfort during this difficult period and are able to summon the strength to move forward with their own lives.
