Window Washers Holding on For Dear Life at One WTC

The attorneys at Block O'Toole & Murphy are following a terrifying scene as it unfolds in lower Manhattan.

High above One World Trade Center, two window washers are dangling on a scaffold that is hanging, perilously, 60 stories above the ground. The window washers were working on a scaffold when a cable supporting the scaffold became loose. It appears that the workers had completed the cleaning of the windows and were in the process of being pulled up to the top of the building when the scaffold malfunctioned.

Gripping photographs show that the workers must fiercely hold on to not fall more than 600 feet. The images are frightening.

Emergency personnel have been on the scene for more than an hour and are in the process of trying to rescue the workers and safely secure the scaffold.

Our thoughts and prayers are with these window washers, their families and their loved ones. It is unimaginable what they must be going through during this extremely difficult period. Let's hope that the fire and police departments are able to get these workers home safe and sound to their families.

Workers who labor at great heights like window washers constantly face dangers at their job. Workplace safety laws in New York aim to protect workers like window washers and construction workers to make sure that they do their jobs safely. These laws hold the entities who are in control of safety at job sites responsible for insuring that it is safe to work. This includes making sure equipment is safe and durable enough to use. This would most certainly include safety equipment like the scaffold or the cable that supported the scaffold. Laws allow for injured workers to obtain compensation if they are not given a safe place to work.

The legal team at Block O'Toole & Murphy is proud of its work helping injured workers. The firm has recovered more than $800 million in verdicts and settlements for their injured clients, including fighting for injured window washers.
