New York crash results in pedestrian death and injuries to others

A recent tragedy occurred on a New York street that resulted in injuries to several people and one death. The crash involved a sport utility vehicle, a pedestrian, a bicyclist and several other motorists. Police reported the tragedy on a recent Thursday in Queens.

Apparently, the sport utility vehicle was traveling at excessive speeds when it careened out of control, hit a tree and went onto a nearby sidewalk. Two young women were reportedly hit by the out-of-control SUV. A 21-year-old woman was in a crosswalk area when she was struck. Another woman, age 26, was riding a bicycle when the vehicle crashed into her.

Witnesses say that two other vehicles were also hit in the horrifying collision. The scene was reported to be one of devastation and calamity. A trail of debris was strewn along the road as investigators tried to figure out the chain of events that led to the crash. Sadly, the woman in the crosswalk died of her injuries. Others who were injured were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Soon after the terrible crash in New York, police allegedly spread out in search of the main suspect. The driver of the SUV is said to have fled the scene on foot. He was described as a Hispanic man over the age of 50, wearing jeans and white shirt. In similar situations in the past, once officers locate the person or persons suspected of negligence in such accidents, injured victims and surviving family members of deceased victims have sometimes taken actions in civil court to hold those persons accountable.
