Brooklyn SUV-Pedestrian Accident Causes Serious Injuries

Multiple pedestrians, two of whom were visiting from Israel during the Rosh Hashanah holiday, were injured when an SUV and a sedan slammed into one another in Brooklyn last night. One victim's leg was nearly severed in the crash, according to witness reports. At least three people were rushed from the scene to area hospitals; one remains in critical condition.

The accident occurred at about 7 p.m. on Thursday in the Crown Heights area of Brooklyn. According to police, the black Hyundai sedan was turning left from eastbound Eastern Parkway onto Kingston Avenue when it collided with the oncoming white Infinity SUV. The SUV then swerved onto the sidewalk, where it hit the three passersby and slammed into a lamppost.

At least two of the pedestrians, whose names have not been reported, were critically injured. One, a 44-year-old woman, reported sustained a severe leg trauma; a witness reports the leg was nearly severed. Another, a 19-year-old was rushed to the hospital with a head trauma. The driver of the SUV and a passenger were also injured. The driver of the sedan reportedly refused medical treatment. All involved are expected to survive.

The accident remains under investigation. No arrests have been made. Residents of the area are reportedly blaming a change in traffic flow for increased collisions.
