Construction Worker Tragically Killed On Set Of "Blade Runner" Movie Sequel

We are following the tragic story of a 28 year old construction worker who was killed last Friday, August 26th, in Budapest. The accident occurred when the young man, whose name has not yet been released, was dismantling a set during the filming of the sequel of the 1982 action move "Blade Runner". Reportedly, the worker was taking down a platform, when it suddenly collapsed and fell onto him. The precise cause of the incident has yet to be determined.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the friends and family who are mourning this terrible loss. As construction accident lawyers, we are reminded that many people are under the mistaken belief that worker safety laws only apply to traditional construction sites. In fact, the law has a much broader application than that, and often looks to the nature of the work being performed, regardless of whether it occurs during a typical construction project. Had this tragic movie set accident happened in New York, for example, it is quite likely that New York Labor Law Section 240(1) would have applied to protect the worker. That law, among other things, mandates that owners and general contractors afford proper protection to prevent workers from being hurt by falling or collapsing objects.

For that reason, it is important that you always contact a qualified personal injury lawyer following any on the job injury. Whether you know it or not, worker safety laws could apply that allow the injured worker and his or her family to recover compensation.
