Plumbers and Pipefitters

Representing Members of New York Plumbers’ Unions

The United Association dates back to 1889, when the United Association of Journeymen Plumbers, Gas Fitters, Steam Fitters and Steam Fitters’ Helpers of the United States and Canada was formed in an effort to bring the existing local pipeworkers’ unions under one organization. Today, the United Association Union of Plumbers, Fitters, Welders and HVAC Service Techs has 370,000 members and more than 300 locals in the U.S., Canada and Australia. Members of the UA, as it is often known, work in the construction of homes, schools, office buildings, refineries, power plants and industrial facilities.

The UA conducts robust training and apprenticeship programs and operates schools throughout the United States and beyond, teaching members to install piping systems, plumbing fixtures, heating, air conditioning and ventilation systems. It offers certification courses in areas that include:

  • Valve repair
  • Medical gas installation
  • Welding
  • Refrigerant handling
  • Industrial rigging
  • UA/MCA foreman
  • Geo thermal
  • Green awareness
  • Instrumentation
  • HVACR S.T.A.R certification
