Electrician Helper Awarded $5 Million Verdict in Ladder Accident Case

The New York construction accident lawyers at Block O Toole & Murphy are happy to announce that justice has been achieved for another client, an electrician helper who suffered a work-related fall. On August 19, a jury saw fit to award our client, a 45-year-old construction worker, $5,000,000 in damages for injuries he sustained as a result of a fall from a ladder.

The plaintiff was installing an electrical conduit as part of a home renovation when the ladder he was standing slipped out from beneath him. He fell twelve feet, injuring his ankle and lower back. His Achilles tendon was ruptured in the fall, requiring surgery and a cast. As time wore on, the milder treatments he was undergoing for his injuries were not effective enough to manage his pain or reverse the damage done to his body. A lumbar fusion was necessary, due to disc herniations, as was surgery on his right ankle and left knee, which had been newly damaged by his gait and use of a cane following the original injuries.

New York construction accidents are not uncommon, and are often severe. The workers compensation system is sometimes not enough to cover the extent of a construction worker s injuries, and if a third party is negligent, they should be held accountable. The defendants in this lawsuit attempted to convince a jury that these injuries resulted from pre-existing conditions. Having an experienced New York construction accident lawyer can help ensure the liable parties are held accountable and that the worker is fully compensated for medical bills, lost wages from time out of work, and other economic damages that result from these accidents.
