Amey Berrill

Amey Berrill joined the Law Firm of Block O’Toole & Murphy in April 2026, bringing a legal career shaped by an early commitment to access to justice.

Ms. Berrill was born and raised in Ireland. She attended the School of Law at the University of Galway, where she completed her law degree in Civil Law, graduating with honors. She went on to earn a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in International Criminal Law at the Irish Centre for Human Rights, also graduating with honors, where she wrote her thesis focusing on international children’s rights.

Throughout law school, Ms. Berrill was actively involved in running the university’s Free Legal Advice Clinic, which provided members of the public with access to free and confidential legal advice across various areas of law. She assisted with organizing campus-based clinics and worked closely alongside lawyers, later serving as the clinic’s Auditor.

Ms. Berrill also took part in the University of Galway’s Innocence Clinic, a program investigating wrongful convictions through combined legal and journalistic methods. The clinic focused on a nineteenth-century wrongful conviction case in which those accused were tried in a court conducted in English, a language they did not understand. The case remains, in Irish history, a significant legal injustice, highlighting severe linguistic and human rights violations against the native Irish-speaking community. Through the clinic, Ms. Berrill had the opportunity to hear directly from individuals who had been wrongfully convicted and exonerated and took part in a public panel discussion with a member of the Guildford Four. She also represented the clinic at a student symposium exploring the intersection of law, journalism, and wrongful convictions.

This work, investigating cases where the legal system had failed the very people it was meant to protect, instilled in Ms. Berrill a lasting commitment to advocacy for those who need it most. After graduating law school, Ms. Berrill also volunteered in her free time with a human rights organization advocating for asylum seekers living in Ireland’s Direct Provision system, interviewing individuals about their experiences and conducting research on the system and related human rights concerns.

Ms. Berrill built a legal career in Dublin spanning civil, criminal and immigration law before relocating to the United States in 2022. She joined a personal injury firm in Manhattan as a paralegal, where she learned to draft dispositive and non-dispositive motions and pleadings for personal injury matters from inception through trial. She worked closely with attorneys to identify legal issues, assisted with shaping case strategy, and ensured strict compliance with protocols and court deadlines.

With a legal foundation built across two jurisdictions and a longstanding dedication to vulnerable individuals navigating the legal system, she is committed to securing justice and fair compensation for clients facing some of the most challenging moments of their lives.

Outside of her legal practice, Ms. Berrill is involved in the Irish community in New York. She serves on the board for the Irish American Bar Association of New York (IABANY) and sits on the Board of the Manhattan Gaels Football Club, where she also plays Gaelic football. An avid runner, she completed the New York City Marathon in 2025. She additionally volunteers with PAWS NYC, a charity that provides support and meaningful assistance to vulnerable populations of people and their animals in New York City, primarily serving older adults and individuals living with illness, disability, or under-resourced circumstances.
