The Serious Personal Injury Attorneys at Block O’Toole & Murphy are following a harrowing subway train derailment that took place today in the Woodside section of Queens.
Hundreds of commuters were evacuated from a Brooklyn-bound F train in Woodside, Queens today after a subway train was derailed. The terrifying experience happened around 10:40am. The police and fire department raced to the scene after a series of frantic 911 calls. The investigation is ongoing but some details are beginning to emerge. Reportedly, the subway train unexpectedly sped up and then came to an abrupt halt, sending unwary passengers reeling as the train went off the rails.
How this happened remains unclear. Thus far, the consequences appear far less severe than the December 2013 Metro North derailment. Still, many innocent victims were taken away in stretchers and as many as 20 people reportedly have been injured. Also, the city transportation system will be slowed considerably. Train accidents seem to be occurring with greater frequency. A train accident can lead to serious injuries or death. Also, when there is a serious train accident, consumers become wary of public transportation. Their confidence in the infrastructure that they previously took for granted becomes fractured. Finally, any mass transit accident impacts people all over the metropolitan area because our public transportation system is necessarily delayed.
We will be following the investigation and will keep our readers posted on any significant developments. Most importantly, our thoughts and prayers to the helpless people that were stuck on the subway when this unfortunate accident took place.
