James McCloskey Gravely Injured At Bus Stop By a Truck

James McCloskey, a 71-year-old Brooklyn resident, was critically injured when a pick-up truck jumped the curb and crashed into a bus stop, smashing through its glass wall and into the victim Tuesday in Brooklyn. The truck smashed through the bus stop after colliding with a minivan, according to witness reports. The victim, James McCloskey, was rushed to Lutheran Medical Center, and remains in critical condition. Two others were reportedly injured in the crash.

The accident occurred at about 11:40a.m. on Tuesday in the Dyker Heights area of Brooklyn. Mr. McCloskey was reportedly sitting at the bus stop, waiting for a B4 bus when the pickup truck suddenly vaulted onto the sidewalk and into him. The pickup truck, a 1996 Dodge Ram, had collided with a minivan at the intersection of 13th Avenue and Bay Ridge Parkway before it crashed into the bus stop and Mr. McCloskey.

Officials have not released further details about how the accident happened. But early reports indicate that some witnesses say the pickup truck ran a red light. Residents of the area have also reported that many accidents occur at this busy intersection, one even comparing the traffic to "NASCAR racing" speeds. Both 13th Avenue and Bay Ridge Parkway are two-way streets with busy bus routes.

The accident investigation remains ongoing. No arrests have been made. The driver of the minivan was issued a summons for driving with an expired license, according to police.

Whatever the investigation reveals, the grief and pain experienced by the victims and their families will likely be overwhelming. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victim Mr. McCoskey and those that are close to him.
