School Bus Accident Proposal Aimed at Reckless Drivers

School bus accidents have serious consequences, particularly when young children are passengers on a bus. Making traveling to and from school safer for children is obviously a concept that all New Yorkers should embrace.

A Brooklyn lawmaker, according to the New York Daily News, is proposing a bill in the city council to put cameras in school buses. The cameras would film vehicles driving within the vicinity of a school bus, hoping to nab reckless drivers that foolishly operate their vehicles in a dangerous way around a moving or stopped school bus.

The end game would be to ticket the drivers. It would also allow a replay of an accident if one occurred; the best evidence of what at least one of the drivers in a accident did. If this is not cost-prohibitive, it sounds like a good idea. But why stop there? Why only go halfway? Why not have a camera that can also captures how the bus is being operated? The same premise applies: Keep kids safe and hold the wrongdoer accountable. What do you think?
