Nearly 100 construction workers are killed and approximately 95,000 are injured every year in a power industrial truck accident. Forklift accidents account for a large number of these injuries and deaths.

How to Prevent Construction Forklift Injuries

  • Certify and train forklift operators
  • Make sure all forklift operators are 18 or older
  • Properly maintain haulage equipment
  • Do not change or make attachments that alter the capacity and safe operation of the forklift without approval from the manufacturer
  • Inspect forklifts for defects before use
  • When moving, picking up, putting down or stacking loads, following safety procedures
  • Do not exceed 5 mph when driving a forklift
  • Slow down in slippery areas
  • Do not lift loads that are heavier than the intended capacity of the forklift
  • Do not use defective or unsafe forklifts
  • Ensure all forklift operators wear seatbelts
  • Use rollover protective structures
  • Make sure that the reverse signal alarm works and can be heard above noise level
